The museum visitors can start looking forward to an ever better ARKEN. In September 2008 the first sod was cut for the building that is to make the museum experience at the art museum even bigger.
New entrance ARKEN is getting a brand new and bigger entrance which will make entering the museum an even more pleasurable experience. Architecturally the museum will embrace the world, welcoming its guests in a spacious, bright foyer drawn by architect Søren Robert Lund who originally designed ARKEN.
"We have long wished for a new entrance, the present one being too narrow. The ambition is to create a better flow for the visitors and to give them a unique architectural experience already upon arrival. That this is now possible is fantastic", says ARKEN’s director Christian Gether.
The museum’s present entrance has become too narrow. Therefore we are building a bigger and brighter entrance to eliminate the queues and create a better flow for the visitors. A staffed cloakroom and a larger area for ARKEN SHOP will also be provided.
The entrance is constructed in collaboration with architect Søren Robert Lund who originally designed ARKEN.
New sculpture hall In addition to the extension of the entrance, ARKEN is getting a brand new sculpture hall of 391 m2. Here the visitors will be able to enjoy sculptures and changing exhibitions in pleasant, bright and relaxing surroundings. Moreover the sculpture hall will function as a conference room for lectures, receptions, dinners and CLUB ARKEN events.
The sculpture hall is given the name THE DETLEFS HALL after the donators.
New areas for ARKEN EDUCATION The opportunities for children and young people are also improved with the extension. Brand new rooms are being made available for ARKEN Education department’s many activities.
The new extension opens for visitors on 5 September.
The extension has been made possible with a generous donation of DKK 52 million from Annie & Otto Johs. Detlefs' Foundations
