Below the foyer are the cloakroom and the toilets.
The cloakroom is painted in the same red nuance as the Red Axis. Originally, the walls were to be lined with red velvet in order to create an atmosphere of a French brothel and to accentuate the intimate mood of the room, but the idea was never carried out.
The toilets, with their very white walls and starkly pale neon lighting, form a sharp contrast to the dark, intimate cloakroom.
In the middle of both the two rooms stands a heavy terrazzo sink. Both sinks weigh two tons and were cast on site. They were among the first things to be cast in the construction process of the museum. ARKEN literally evolved from these “monuments”. With their four taps in the middle, the sinks encourage contact with other hand-washing visitors.
