Reyle studied painting in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. Since 1998 he has lived and worked in Berlin. He is associated with the galleries Almine Reich in Brussels and Paris, Gagosian in the US and Andersens Contemporary in Copenhagen.
As a student, Reyle was told only to make minimalist or conceptual art. Consequently, today he works with monumental art, to break this prescription. He follows earlier phenomena from art history, especially fascinated with the philosophy and aesthetics of modernism.
Reyle has participated in a wealth of solo and group shows all over the world. His solo exhibitions include ”Seekers At The Gate Of Dawn”, Hobbypopmuseum, Düsseldorf (1999), “Anselm Reyle”, Andersen’s Wohnung, Berlin (1999), “Beyond”, Galerie Giti Nourbakhsch, Berlin (2001), “At The Edge Of Forever”, ROMAROMAROMA, Rome (2002), “The Art Of Anselm Reyle”, Gavin Brown’s enterprise, New York (2004), “Licht und Farbe”, Neuer Aachener Kunstverein, Aachen (2004), “ARS NOVA”, Kunsthalle Zürich, Zürich (2006), “Valley Of The Snake Ladies”, ANDERSEN_S, Copenhagen (2006), “The Construction of Harmony”, Galerie Almine Rech, Paris (2007), “The 5th Dream”, The Modern Institute / Toby Webster Ltd, Glasgow (2007), “Anselm Reyle”, Almine Rech Gallery, Brussels (2008).
