Morten Schelde studied at The Funen Art Academy (1994-96) and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art (1996-2001). He originally pursued painting but since enrolling at the School of Graphic Arts at the Royal Academy in 1997 he has worked with drawing as his primary medium. Today Schelde lives and works in Copenhagen.
Schelde has received several scholarships, including from The Danish Arts Foundation. In recent years he has attained international recognition. He has had a large number of solo and group shows in Denmark and abroad, including Gl. Strand in Copenhagen (2001), Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen (2002), Overgaden in Copenhagen (2003), Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk and DCA Gallery in New York (2005), Galleri Susanne Ottesen in Copenhagen, Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig (2006) and Vestsjællands Kunstmuseum (2007).
Schelde is represented in Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig. Furthermore he has created a decoration for The Danish crown prince’s residence, Frederik the VIII’s Palace in 2009.
