Bharti Kher was born to Indian parents, grew up and was educated in England. At the age of 23 she moved to New Delhi in India, where she lives and works today. In her works she often interweaves elements from her own upbringing in England with symbols from Indian culture. One recurring element in Bharti Kher’s works is the bindi, the small decorative mark that many Indian women place on their foreheads between their eyebrows every day.
Bharti Kher was awarded the ARKEN art prize in 2010.
