Doshi Levien consists of the married couple Nipa Doshi (born 1971 in Mumbai, India) and Jonathan Levien (born 1972 in Elgin, Scotland). Doshi Levien’s designs combine the hard-edged industrial with rounded, exquisite handmade qualities. They unite traditional Indian elements with their in-depth knowledge of European design history. The results are beautiful, original contributions to a design history that is already defining Doshi Levien’s furnishings as classics.
The reading room, which Doshi Levien has been designed specifically for ARKEN, is built up around some of their most acclaimed furniture: The armchair Paper Planes, the day bed Charpoy, the prizewinning sofa My Beautiful Backside, the chair Impossible Wood and the day bed Principessa, which is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s tale The Princess and the Pea.
Here ARKEN’s guests can take a break and become absorbed in the presented literature, see the documentary about three of the artists participating in the exhibition INDIA : ART NOW or simply enjoy the beautiful furniture.
