Since 2005 the point of departure for the Queen’s works has been various types of stone, and later skeletons or ‘carcases’, and most recently ‘bones’, as the artist herself calls them. These most recent works have never before been shown to the public.
The works are related to the Queen’s interest in archaeology. The artist is fascinated by objects that bear the traces of bygone times. The forms in the pictures are highly sculptural and almost abstract. The colours vary between cold and warm, sombre and cheerful.
The titles of the works give us an idea of what the strange forms refer to. In addition some of the work titles, for example Big carcase (2011), strike a note of humour in the pictures. Despite the serious subject, the colours are intense and radiant.
