SIXTEEN 2 – film premiere and concert

In collaboration with filmmaker Camilla Ramonn and UCN10 Brøndby, THIRD SPACE hosted the premiere of the short films SIXTEEN 2—a collection of new short films created by young people from Vestegnen—on Thursday, June 18, 2026. In these films, the young filmmakers draw inspiration from pivotal turning points in their own lives and dramatize them in fictional stories about finding the strength to rise above difficult situations. The films are authentic, genuine, and stem directly from their own perspectives—and they themselves play the leading roles in their stories. The films were developed and created in collaboration with friends, families, teachers, and a small production team, with strong support from the Vestegnen community. The evening began with a concert by Divine Listic.

THIRD SPACE x Mino Ung

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, attendees heard speeches by six young people from Mino Ung, a strong youth-to-youth community that works to strengthen the opportunities, voices, and participation of ethnic minority Danes in society. Through workshops at ARKEN and with the RØST Public Speaking School, each of them had written a personal and unique speech based on their own experiences and perspectives, drawing inspiration from the exhibition 55.6° North – ARKEN’s Collection. The speeches gave the young people a powerful platform and offered museum visitors a rare glimpse into what matters to them right now. The result was immediate, honest, and insightful narratives from a new generation of voices.

In the spring of 2025, Brøndby IF visited ARKEN with a special exhibition featuring 150 iconic soccer jerseys and portraits taken by young people from Turning Tables in Brøndby Strand. There, visitors could try out the music workshop “Create Your Sound—Share Your Vibe,” where young people from Ishøj Ungdom demonstrated how to record, mix, and share their own music. Jugadores hosted a panna tournament, and there were also bouncy castles, a pentathlon, stadium tours, a scavenger hunt, contests, and a chance to meet the mascot Nanok—all organized by Brøndby IF in a true stadium atmosphere for the whole family.

Another World af Henrik Plenge Jakobsen
Another World

Another World is part of the THIRD SPACE project and is a site-specific artwork developed by Henrik Plenge Jakobsen in close process and collaboration with different groups of young people from Ishøj Ungdomsskole, where the artist and the young people had conversations and workshops over two months. Another World is inspired by the urban landscape of Vestegnen and the architecture of ARKEN and will be a sculptural environment created primarily with concrete fragments from the demolition of buildings in Vestegnen and will be reminiscent of Caspar David Friedrich's painting The Arctic Ocean. The work is a relational sanctuary that will hopefully create meetings and new communities between young people on their own terms, and is one of ARKEN's first artworks created specifically for the site and the museum's cultural context.

Students create campaigns for THIRD SPACE

As part of their studies, two 1st-year design teams from NEXT/Enghøj in Hvidovre worked on campaigns targeting young people in 2024 and 2025. Among other things, the young people have investigated how best to reach their target group and through which formats, and have prepared material for specific campaigns that inform young people about THIRD SPACE. The collaboration has been a success and will continue in 2026.

THIRD SPACE: A shared commitment

The working group for THIRD SPACE consists of members of ARKEN’s Community Board and brings together committed forces. The group contributes ideas and inputs to the development of THIRD SPACE supporting ARKEN in creating opportunities for young people to shape their own leisure life and promote the role of art as a community builder. ARKEN wants to listen more and involve more people in the museum’s work making art accessible and inspiring to everyone. The board meets three times a year, while the working group meets more frequently to support the work with THIRD SPACE.

THIRD SPACE is supported by Tuborgfondet, Nordea-fonden, Sportgoodsfonden, Region Hovedstadens Kulturpulje, Foreningen Roskilde Festival & Spar Nord Fonden
