Thursday 4 September THIRD SPACE comes alive with music, art and street culture!
Hip hop legend and member of the Hip Hop Hall of Fame, Kurtis Blow, hosts an exclusive rap workshop. At the same time, visitors can explore digital street art in the VR graffiti station or dive into a graffiti workshop with Azit, one of Denmark’s leading graffiti artists.
Later in the day, young talents from Vestegnen take the stage for a special Record Release Event. Headliner OTS closes the evening with their energetic and innovative sound, which has made them one of the most exciting names on the Danish hip hop scene right now.
Street Culture Live takes place in THIRD SPACE outside ARKEN on Thursday 4 September from 16:00-20:30. The event is free and open to everyone, but does not include access to the museum’s exhibitions.
The day is a collaboration between ARKEN, Glostrup Street Festival, Ishøj Ungdom, and Vestegnen Youth Leaders.
On 23.08.2025, we will fill THIRD SPACE with music, games and community. Compete in FIFA on PlayStation, play a quick game on the panna court, and grab a bite to eat along the way. In the middle of the afternoon, you can experience a unique Record Release Event with Divine Listic, EHZ THI3RRY, Ashish Gurung, Mateusz Fratczak, James Njombua with more.
The event is a collaboration between ARKEN, Ishøj Ungdom and Foreningen Jugadores. The event runs from 13:00 to 16:30 and is open and free to all. There will be free food and drinks. Participation does not grant free admission to the museum's exhibitions.
Dreaming of making your own music or taking your sound to the next level? Ishøj Ungdomsskole organised a music camp Create your sound - share your vibe for young people between the ages of 13 and 25 on Saturday 21.06.25 in THIRD SPACE. Here you could meet other young people with the same dreams and be part of a creative community with room for everyone. The music camp started with a studio session where you learnt how to use professional tools, followed by a listening session where you could “preview” your music for the others in the community.
The film SIXTEEN premiered Thursday 19.06.25 in THIRD SPACE. SIXTEEN is a short film about young people on the edge in Vestegnen. The film is produced by young people from UCN10 Brøndby and is about life changes they have experienced themselves. The film was followed by a concert with up-and-coming Vestegnen talent DIVINE LISTIC.
Saturday 14.06.2025 we opened Vestegnen's new meeting place and cultural community for and by young people! We celebrated community, creativity and young voices with a strong music programme that gave the microphone to some of Vestegnen's talented and up-and-coming artists: ZK, NØX, BFL, SubUrban Girls, TAY and DJs from Turning Tables! Helin Erdem from P3 was host all day. Admission was free and free slushice!
From 01.05.25-09.06.25, the museum showed a photo exhibition created by four children and young people from the NGO Turning Tables in Brøndby Strand. With camera in hand, they have portrayed both Brøndby IF players and fans, providing a personal and intimate look at fan culture, football culture and community. The exhibition is part of the museum's collaboration with Brøndby IF and marks the start of a further collaboration with Turning Tables in THIRD SPACE.
Another World is part of the THIRD SPACE project and is a site-specific artwork developed by Henrik Plenge Jakobsen in close process and collaboration with different groups of young people from Ishøj Ungdomsskole, where the artist and the young people had conversations and workshops over two months. Another World is inspired by the urban landscape of Vestegnen and the architecture of ARKEN and will be a sculptural environment created primarily with concrete fragments from the demolition of buildings in Vestegnen and will be reminiscent of Caspar David Friedrich's painting The Arctic Ocean. The work is a relational sanctuary that will hopefully create meetings and new communities between young people on their own terms, and is one of ARKEN's first artworks created specifically for the site and the museum's cultural context.
As part of their education, two 1st year design teams from NEXT/Enghøj in Hvidovre are working on campaigns targeted at young people in 2024 & 2025. Among other things, the young people have studied how best to reach their target group and through which formats, as well as prepared material for specific campaigns that inform young people about THIRD SPACE.
The working group for THIRD SPACE consists of members of ARKEN’s Community Board and brings together committed forces. The group contributes ideas and inputs to the development of THIRD SPACE supporting ARKEN in creating opportunities for young people to shape their own leisure life and promote the role of art as a community builder. ARKEN wants to listen more and involve more people in the museum’s work making art accessible and inspiring to everyone. The board meets three times a year, while the working group meets more frequently to support the work with THIRD SPACE.
THIRD SPACE is supported by Tuborgfondet, Nordea-fonden, Sportgoodsfonden, Region Hovedstadens Kulturpulje, Foreningen Roskilde Festival & Spar Nord Fonden
