What are the consequences of our relationship with oil for our climate, economies, and culture?
This autumn, ARKEN presents a major exhibition by Kuwaiti artist Monira Al Qadiri (b. 1983), who will install large-scale works throughout the museum's Art Axis: Floating sculptures shaped like petrochemical molecules, pearlescent, rotating drill heads, and a video piece that lets us fly like drones through an oil field.
Monira Al Qadiri was born in Senegal and raised in Kuwait, where the main industry has shifted over just a few generations from pearl diving to oil extraction. Today, Monira Al Qadiri lives and works in Berlin.
Program to follow.
