Turkish-born artist Refik Anadol and his wife, Efsun Erkılıç, who are based in Los Angeles, personally introduced DATALAND as "a paradigm shift" in the museum experience at its opening in June 2026. Their new museum brings together art, architecture, and the visitor experience through advanced AI systems, real-time data collection, integrated technologies, and wearable devices that allow visitors to interact with the artworks in entirely new ways.

In 2023, Refik Anadol presented the exhibition ‘Nature Dreams’ at ARKEN, featuring large-scale immersive installations created from online photographs processed by supercomputers. The resulting works transformed the images into fluid, dreamlike visual landscapes that unfolded before the eyes of the many visitors to the exhibition.

Speaking about the new museum, Refik Anadol says: "DATALAND was conceived as a new model for cultural institutions in the 21st century."

"For 5,000 years, humanity has been moved by art. But that relationship has always been one-way. As we developed DATALAND, we asked ourselves: Is it possible for art to sense us? We envisioned a place where audiences and art could merge, creating a feedback loop of shared consciousness. Through collaboration, that dream has now become a reality."

Among the partners behind DATALAND is the world-leading chip manufacturer NVIDIA, which also powers Denmark's first national AI supercomputer, Gefion.
